TAKE ACTION
Insist Colombia not cancel natural forest protections
http://forests.org/action/alert.asp?id=colombia
The FundaciAIA of Colombia reports that Forests.org's alert on behalf
of Colombia's rainforests has already had positive impact. "The debates
on the Forestry law are taking place every Tuesday in the House of
Representatives. Last Tuesday, the opposition used the letter signed by
environmental NGOs. It had impact. Those who promoted the project did
not succeed in getting it approved. The debate continues next Tuesday. We
made progress in the sense that it has been accepted that the concept of
"vuelo forestal" (separating rights to land from rights to the forest
cover, PV) will not be applied to indigenous or afro-colombian
territories. In spite of this, they want to cancel all norms that protect
natural forests." It was suggested that our campaign also send copies to
the media. The alert at http://forests.org/action/alert.asp?id=colombia
has been updated to include this new information and to send messages to
media as well.
FUND RAISING UPDATE: We are 40% to our goal with $15,000 still needed to
be raised in order to guarantee we can remain operational. If you value
global forest ecological sustainability and Forests.org efforts on their
behalf please donate now at http://forests.org/donate/ .

Do you Know where Sea Turtles Go?
About the Author
Paul Lowery is retired and makes his home along the Gulf Coast
of Florida. The inspiration for this story was initiated when Paul
and his grandson, Jeremy, saw a large sea turtle while deep sea
fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. PBL STORIES LLC (Paul & Betty
Lowery) was formed some .fteen years after Paul began writing
children's stories at home in Kansas City while still employed as
an executive of.large company there. In his
career, Paul was involved in writing many corporate programs
policies, and communications. The ideas for children's stories
were usually prompted by Betty, his wife, who is a retired teacher.

Title: America's Controversies: The Death Penalty, Clinton's Presidency & Export of Democracy to Nicaragua
AUTHOR: Ksenija Arsic
The hypocrisy of Capital Punishment in the modern United States, the controversial presidency of Bill Clinton, and the influence of America on democracy in the Latin America, are the primary topics of America's Controversies. Taken from the author's body of work produced while obtaining her Masters degree at the University of Guelph, Ksenija Arsic presents a detailed and thought-provoking look at America's political policies, with a fresh, somewhat-Canadian approach. The larger portion of the book involves a close look at capital punishment, from its history to its present day social and political acceptability, and even looks to the future, and the path most necessary, albeit difficult, for its possible elimination. The chapters devoted to the Clinton presidency focus on his legacy: whether he will be remembered for his social contributions, or his sexual exploits. Finally, the author looks at the success of the sudden introduction of democracy in Nicaragua, or lack thereof.
America's Controversies is very well written and researched. The subjects are innately interesting and certainly timely. Potential readers might expect that, since the papers were written for a Master's degree, those without similar education might not easily understand them. Fortunately, while Ksenija Arsic is obviously writing academically, with concentration and interest this book is enlightening and readable.
Ksenija Arsic earned her bachelor's degree in her homeland of Serbia, where she worked as a radio journalist. She currently resides in Guelph, Ontario.
Not simply for the academic elite, I highly recommend this book for those intrigued, or baffled, by American politics.
